  • What is this channel?.. biggest downside is that you can’t connect 30 monitors? You need to buy a keyboard and a trackpad (really? Instead of a mouse)? You either already have these or you would need to buy them for a desktop anyway.

  • NAS = Network Attached Storage; so if one USB4 port is made into a 10Gb LAN, that is where the NAS will be found-somewhere on your LAN; Maybe you are talking about a TB external drive....which can be solved with a docking station.

  • I ordered the M1 Mac Mini but I upgraded the memory to 16g...still under $1,000! Can’t wait to get it but I have to wait until 30 December due to high demand. Really looking forward to seeing this thing for myself...I’ve been using the iPad (2020 iPad Pro & iPad Mini 5) and the iPhone (iPhone 8+) but I’ve never had a Mac based desktop. I’ll be glad to finally finish the Apple sphere.

  • So what your saying is: "this M1 mini is missing all the thing *I* want!" LOL! Seriously, most of us aren't editing 8K video or driving 12 monitors, so I think what the low-end M1 Mac mini delivers is more than adequate for editing text, developing software, working on spreadsheets, watching streaming video, etc, etc... all the things normal folk do. For everyone else, wait for the follow-on models coming next year.

  • I read an article on MacRumors titled "Developers delves into reasons why Apple's M1 chip is so fast" by Juli Clover. The article says that the reason M1 is so fast is not because the M1 is a fast general purpose CPU like the Intel and AMD, but it is mainly because it is a collection of specialized dedicated hardware chips that does spedific work very fast. So instead of using the general purpose CPU to encrypt files, it actually has a specific hardware chip dedicated for encryption. Similarly, instead of using the general purpose CPU to encode/decode h.264 and h.265 video, the M1 has a chip for h.264 encoding/decoding on hardware and another chip to encode and decode h.265 video. The M1 has many other chips to hardware accelerate decompressing music, for processing images, etc. and all the most used functions by the power user. So therefore the M1 appears fast, but if there is a function that it does not have hardware acceleration for, then it will use its general purpose CPU to carry that function out at speeds comparable to Intel and AMD. And on top of that, it has unified memory to accelerate memory usage. So this is why the M1 appears as if it was a very fast general purpose CPU. Comparing M1 to Intel/AMD is like comoparing apples to oranges, one is a general purpose CPU and the other is a collection of very fast accelerators. Ultimately, the end result is impressive. "All" Intel/AMD has to do is build a hole bunch of instruction sets in hardware into their CPU for the most used computer functions to imitate the M1 (and also reduce power comsumption). All this time people are so impressed thinking that the M1 is a super fast general purpose CPU, but the magic is in building in specialized chips for acceleration. The weakness of the M1 will show when the M1 is called to do something it is not pre-selected to handle it in hardware acceleration. When the computer is programed to do something completely new (say encode video on a future/new h.266 encoding/decoding), it will struggle and fall behind faster general purpose Intel/AMD CPUs.

  • I’ve been hoping and waiting for this new M1 Mac mini. Now for my dream setup challenge: running a Mac mini headless but interface over WiFi via Sidecar to iPad Pro. My need for Mac and macOS is great but not enough to have a full setup, so for the critical but little bit of desktop operations I need to do, it would be great if I can do it “through” my iPad Pro from sofa and the other 90% of main usage it will be on iOS as currently do. I’m sure there’s some script, shortcuts/ Automator some tech wizard can come up with to make this possible… start up the Mac mini, go through the boot up sequence, and load or share screen over to the iPad without entering a password at any point. If someone knows, please share it or make a video and post it for the rest of us who might have this type of usage in mind. I cannot be the only one but I do not have the technical know how to make it happen. So basically Mac mini used as a server so the iPad can display macOS when needed.

  • The point that most people seem to miss is that the Mac Mini is not targeted at professionals, it’s targeted at home users. And home users don’t need an army of ports and a boatload of RAM just to watch kitten videos on Facebook. A much more valid criticism would be the pricing. Yes, it is 699 but a) it used to be 499 to enter the Mac-o-sphere back in the day and let’s be honest that’s what the Mini is all about and b) by the time it gets here (Greece but it’s not much different in the rest of Europe) it’s at the 800-900 euro price point which at the time of writing is 950-1070 USD for our friends from across the pond.

  • What about comparing M1 fully customized and Intel fully customized. What's the performance difference? Which one wins and by how much? Is fully customized Intel Mac Mini better or even equal to customized 15" MBP? There's a lot left out in this video, may be if you can make another one that goes the full distance, people will benefit more.

  • I am thinking of getting a MacMini but I can not really decide whether to go with the new M1 model or the previous (and last) Intel version? I am not a designer, I only need a machine for daily things like browsing the internet, home office (via VPN). Nothing really fancy. I am still using a mid 2015 MacBook Pro and I would like to give it to my wife so I can 'upgrade' to the MacMini...

  • Question: Is the new Mac mini better for video editing at this very moment in time for a very large project than say a 2014 iMac with 32GB of RAM? Will my video editing experience be better, even just a tiny bit? I understand this new model of MAC mini is focused on non-professional video editors but I need something right now that would work faster than say a 2014 iMac with 32GB of RAM even just a little bit faster.

  • I ordered the Mac mini M1 over the M1 laptops because I already have all the other necessary hardware sitting on my desk. If I need a portable, I have a couple of basic Chromebooks lying around, but if I need to do some video editing for home movies, or just work all day at my desk, the Mac mini is perfect for that. The problem with laptops is, the longer you leave them plugged in, the less reliable their batteries tend to get.

The new one is a disappointment, maybe the GPU is more powerful than Intel integrated graphics UHD 630 but that’s it. I need the 2 Thunderbolt busses to not get bottlenecked by two devices need to share a bus. The integrated controller on the M1 wich maxes out at 1TB3/USB4 Bus, 1 gig lan and 16Gig of RAM

  • Hello, my name is Nicholas from Dar es salaam, Tanzania. I'm a huge iPhone fan(always have been) though I've never actually owned one, I've always had a bit of an experience of how the iPhones iOS is and how it works as compared to the android phones from my friends who own them. I previously owned a Samsung Galaxy S5, then I was later gifted a Sony Xperia Z2(which was later stolen after 3 years), and now I'm using the Samsung Galaxy A10s. However I was once a proud owner of an iPod mini back in 2008. The reason as to why I've never gotten an iPhone is the high prices at the time of the launch of any of the latest iPhones on the market, and I've never wanted to get a refurbished phone. I'd always recommend anyone to get the latest iPhone on the market regardless of its price because apple always supports its latest devices the longest. I'd go for the iPhone 12 Pro Max, but ofcourse I'd be satisfied with the iPhone 12 Pro with the largest storage capacity(1. Graphite or 2. Pacific Blue). If I was to go for the iPhone, it would have to be in the graphite colour, with the largest storage capacity(for all the media I'd have in, and I'd also not have to worry about how much space I've got left everytime I update any software I have on it). I think I'd start investing in the Apple Silicon M1 Macbook Pro 13 after either of the iPhone 12 pro models(but ofcourse, the iPhone 12 with the largest storage capacity is still worth it). The iphone 12 mini is NOT an option. Thanks for the videos Daniel, Africa is watching :-)
